LCD vs LED - The TV Thread

Dear all,

Assistance please.

Me and the mrs ripper are going hunting for a new TV for her studio apartment, so we aren't looking for anything huge. The best size is probably around a 22/24 inch screen or so based on holding a tape measure against the wall while she sits/stands/lays in tv watching positions umming and ahhing.

For what I require there appears to be a plethora of LCD and LED tv's on the market and in the price range. So...

Which is best? LCD or LED?

Please give pros/cons of both or alternatives.

Sincerly,
Want to look somewhat knowledgeable while butting heads with sales clerk tomorrow/Sunday.

UIM, LEDs consume less power, but LCDs can be had for cheaper.

Any LED TV will cost you substantially more than the equivalent size/brand LCD, but the greater quality of colour, contrast and overall picture means it's well worth it IMO - I have LED and I wub it.

LED has greater contrast, brighter colours afaik, better for most people but more expensive. Would go for a slightly bigger one though, they're pretty cheap if you're not fussed about brand names.

Haha bought a 50" plasma for my new place on black Friday. Felt like I was in 2007 and all, but it was a really good price.

As for the OP, LED >> LCD for all the reasons f00lins mentioned, but you can get a very nice LCD for a very good price.

I've got both and there really isnt a huge difference so go for the better deal e.g. a 32" LCD is a much better deal than a 24" LED if they both cost the same
