Straw Man (not the poster)

When did this become such a popular term?

I swear, I posted on this forum for at least 4 years and this term never came up once.

I hate it. It seems the in thing to say now to try and discredit arguments without explaining why. Straw man this, straw man that.

And to make things even worse, the poster who goes by the moniker "Straw Man" comes across like a top lad, and I feel the derogatory terminology associated with the term to be incongruous with the poster.

Cut it out.

I'm pretty strawman is the proper term for that type of logical fallacy tbh. Being a hypocritical **** doesn't have the same zing.

Disagree completely. You've made a straw man here.

Why do I come here? I get sucked into coming up with bizarre hypotheticals (11 Bradmans taking on 11 Sobers. My arse). Make the same posts about the same players (mainly Mike Garnham). Read gibberish from Spikey (with added .gifs). See Scottie (of all people) knock out Wile E. Coyote for some disney **** and then I make half-arsed wankerish wanky rants about phraseology that doesn't float my boat.

Where are my pills, Marjorie?

I used to find the term slightly annoying, but TBF it does sum up SOOOOOO many arguments on the web and cricketweb, so it does allow you to pass on so many parts of posts.

It is also more polite than what I used to do. "Your first paragraph was just a straw man", is probably better than "I can't be bothered to talk about that pointless nonsense, because it has **** all to do with what we're talking about, and you probably know that".

Easier to write too.
