    CW's 50 Greatest bands ever

So as we've had a few Battle of the bands, and plus morgieb isn't quite a master battle-runner, I thought it might be fun if we did what smiley has just done with cricketers, but with bands.

The premise is simple: you send me your top 25, 1st receives 25, 25 receives 1, Radiohead get none (okay okay FINE)

If I get a decent response I will post a top 50 in countdown format, I'm not gonna lie to you though, Wikipedia readers will probably be familiar with large extracts

Vote on whatever basis you want, if you think the Spice Girls are the best ever, then go for it

Send responses to martyn.work@hotmail.co.uk, please make it clear in the subject that it's CW related, and include your username of I don't do it

If I receive no responses then I go away and pretend this never happened

Can we have individual artists like Frank Zappa etc...? And what about people who are part of successful bands but also have released solo work?

Interesting idea, actually. Betting there's a lot less consensus with music than with cricketers.

Do we consider longevity in the formulation of our lists?

Reckon we'll get a very fragmented outcome from this, for the reason Brumby has stated. Will be interesting nonetheless, however.

I was leaning against solo artists but it evokes open to interpretation with the likes of nine inch Nails, The Streets, Noel Gallagher's High flying birds () actually

Duos I'd say are definitely fine. I'd say bands only and apply a bit of common sense. So using sledger's example I wouldn't vote for miles Kane but could vote for The Rascals (I won't FTR)

No reason why the same person can't feature twice though. The jam and Style Council, Nirvana and foos, etc

good idea GIMH..........is it restricted to only English music bands or can we have other European bands?
And smalishah's avatar is the most classy one by far Jan certainly echoes the sentiments of CW

Yeah we don't crap in the first world; most of us would actually have no idea what that was emanating from Ajmal's backside. Why isn't it roses and rainbows like what happens here? PEWS's retort to Ganeshran on Daemon's picture depicting Ajmal's excreta

Hoping for strong showings for the Stone Roses, Blondie and the Specials. Not holding my breath though...

As long as Queen don't win I'm not fussed.

Any band that have released an album is the criteria I'll go with. Again use common sense, obviously me and my ****head mates could record something tonight and distribute it online.

No deadline I'll take them as long as there's reasonable interest

The former and the latter will definitely be getting a vote from the Brumby camp. Suspect Ms Harry and the chaps will just miss out tho.

Roses fairly high on my early musings. Funny actually given Eds post, might be the low album count that keeps them out of my top five or six
