Afghanistan Massacre

BBC News - Obama condolences over Afghanistan massacre in Kandahar

It's time for the US to get the **** out of Afghanistan, now that their main objective has been completed.

Edit: Oops, wrong section. Sorry for the mistake, could the mods move it to Off Topic please.

Thanks in advance.

! Good work AN:p

Yep, will move it.

This shouldn't be really used as evidence to get out of Afghanistan though. Was obviously a freak incident that probably could have happened at any time in the invasion. Absolutely tragic though, such a waste of life.

Agent Nationaux 11-03-2012 04:33 PM

I don't really give a **** if it provides evidence or not. Mental breakdowns in American soldiers is common. How long before we have another **** doing the same thing. We have seen what American's do to their own High school students, now they are repeating the same monstrosity in a country whose population has been devastated for decades by wars.

The US soldier should be tried according to Afghan law (not US) and hanged if found guilty.

PhoenixFire 11-03-2012 04:40 PM

I'm at loathe to defend America here, but it's not like the random killing of civilians is limited to Americans is it? I mean, hardly a week goes past without some Taliban related violence killing innocent citizens. Not saying that's any justification for what happened obviously, but you're making it sound as though it's exclusive to American troops.

In a vaguely related point, if it's so common, as you claim, then surely part of the the onus of responsibility might lay outside the blame of the bloke who committed it. Regardless, I know Afghanistan is somewhere with people who seem to think it's acceptable to kill people in a seemingly willy nilly manner, but I can't help but feel disgusted that someone would think it's OK to hang someone before some sort of mental assessment has been carried out on he bloke who did it.

Agent Nationaux 11-03-2012 04:55 PM

Soldiers in Afghanistan are suffering from mental breakdowns, and yeah, I was harsh to say he should be hanged (you are right, he clearly wasn't right in the head). But I hope you understand my anger, especially since children were murdered.

Agent Nationaux 11-03-2012 05:13 PM

Surprising that he didn't kill himself after committing the heinous act.

silentstriker 11-03-2012 06:07 PM

I don't think we should be in Afghanistan anymore anyway. But these things will happen in war. You can't do much about it except punish the offending person, which I hope does happen and I think it will.

And you expect the rest of what you said to be taken seriously? Really?

Sixteen Afghan civilians killed in rogue U.S. attack

According to Reuters, there are conflicting reports emerging regarding the number of soldiers who killed the civilians.

Wasn't it the second incidence in the occupation, ie 2 in 11 years, hardly what I'd call common.

Mental breakdowns in people are common

silentstriker 11-03-2012 07:40 PM

Especially in high stress situations.

Yeah. See Warner-Spikey incident for example.

This. Completely dire post.

The Americans will leave soon, and then the people of Afghanistan can look forward to the gentle governance of the Taliban. The good folk can then look forward to laws like legally being able to beat your wife, the banning of music and public stonings for adulters coming back into vogue.
