Well done Delhi
Well done to Delhi who created history in getting the 2010 Commonwealth Games. I should imagine the Indian Government wont stuff up and not make themselves look idiots, although it could go the other way.

Yeah it's great news though its a long way away
. The Afro-Asian Games held last month in Hyderabad did the trick as it greatly impressed the Asian and African officials with the infrastructure and the hospitality and it helped in securing their votes. Now the Indian gov has vowed to build the same kind of infrastructure in Delhi. But the officials have some tough tasks on their hand now as they to widen the roads by downing some buildings , building a lot more flyovers , keep the roads clean, etc,. It takes a tough administration too to build the kind of infrastructure available in cities like Bangalore,Hyderabad, etc,. as there will always be protests like spend it on the poor than building or renovating the stadiums. BTW, here is theAfro-Asian Games Website Delhi CWG Games Bid Website Hope these are held successfully so that India can bid for the 2020 Olympics ( 2016 would be hard for India as Hyderabad is bidding for 2014 Asian Games and 2 yrs is too short a time ). amit , yeah i went to see the Afro Asian Games almost every day
. On the F1 thing , there is intense battle going on between Hyderabad and Bangalore for that. A week back Hyderabad has received 3 agreements from F1 and a meeting is said to have taken place in London . On hyderabad, it was a backward city till about 6-7 years back. But a new chief minister came into power named Naidu and he is pro-western . He set about improving the state by giving importance to Education and software & technology side. He set about improving the city by demolishing some buildings to widened the congested roads and made the roads clean ( no cows on roads which some people associate with India) and planted lots of trees in the city which resulted in the city getting best clean & green city in India. He gave a lot of importance to IT sector and built a separate city on the outskirts named Hitech City. Here is a website on that. He brought Clinton and Bill Gates to the city when they were visiting India and proposed to them to invest. The same thing took Bangalore 3 decades to achieve and it impressed a lot of companies and now companies like Microsoft , Oracle, CA , HSBC , Bankof America,DELL, Siemens , General Electric (GE ) , etc,. made Hyderabad as their development centres or started back office operations here . India normally only wins one medal in Olympics and in the 2000 Sydney games a state girl won the bronze medal which is only medal India won and it brought a lot of fame to the state. And so he has turned his focus onto sports. He again built on the outskirts of the city a group of stadiums of Boxing,Swimming , athletics, tennis, etc, all side-by-side within walkable distance within 6 months. He got the National Games held last year in Hyd. The 1st edition of the Afro-Asian Games was decided just 3 months before to try to win the CWG bid and about 2,500 athletes from around 90 countries were expected. Two field hockey stadiums with floodlights were built in a record time of 69 days and some other stadia were built and the games were held successfully . The way it was held and the opening and closing ceremonies greatly impressed the delegates of those countries and it helped in winning the CWG bid. To maintain those stadia he roped in IMG which has academies in Florida to start its academies first time outside Florida in Hyderabad which will be its academy for whole of Asia. It is also going to build Basketball stadias and Golf courses and has vowed to bring in PGA Tour to Hyderabad and for the first time WTA Tennis Event was held in India in Hyderabd this year. BTW , football was held on the stadium in which match is going to be played tomorrow. Hyderabad Cricket Association had only got 10 days and so hope they will make it ready for Cricket. This will also be the last cricket match in this stadium after which it will be made exclusive for Football while a new cricket stadium is being built on the outskirts of the city. Hyderabad is one of the more cleaner cities in India and is one of the more pleasant ones unlike some other metro cities with some historical monuments . Here is where you can find some more information herehttp://www.hydonline.com/ http://www.reachouthyderabad.com/ That was a very big post

My Apologies but why is India hosting this event. It is a nation on the way up, but don't they have better things to spend tax payers money. IMO, the money could be better spent on other things and maybe 20 years down the pipeline they could host the games, but ATM is doesn't seem right...

1) The alternative was Hamilton, and Canada had the games in 1994
2) Major sporting events are huge boosts for the area in many ways and often return profits (Sydney 2000 anyone?)

Why should it be a private club with Australia, Canada and Britain holding a monopoly?

. In India money is spent on many useless things , spending on these type of things will improve the economy and is much better use of money than some others. The same is happ with F1 too as it requires around Rs 700 Crores ( 1 crore = 10 million ) but the Gov is adamnant about it saying it will give a boost to the economy .

Here is another interesting one. Canada surprised India by announcing $ 3.2 million dollars to the commonwealth nations to train their athletes just 2-3 days before the voting and India retaliates by announcing $7.2 million to the 72 nations just before the voting
On an off topic one , here is a terrific one on why Global Firms heading for Hyderabad . |
