Interestingly listening to that video, I would have just said that it's the 'English accent' (yes I know there's no such thing as a uniform accent but that's what I think of when someone says 'English' accent).

English accent like on the girl in Transformers 3 is really, really hot.

Worst are Aussie cricketers, they seem to have a nasty sneering tone about them (think Ponting).

some of the news anchors on BBC had great accents. Nic Gowing was one guy who spoke in a marvelous accent (is that what they call the King's English???). David Gower too speaks in a great way I think.

One thing most people get wrong with the Yorkshire accent is using t' for "the". Real Yorkshire folk don't use the definite article at all. They say "Ah'm gurn up rurd" not "Ah'm gurn up t' rurd".

Listening to that accent - saying monkeh instead of monkey sounds so much better.

Interesting. When you hear (say) Bumble and Nasser speak you must be able to hear the difference in their accents tho, surely?

I can identify a scouser accent (which I often confuse with scottish) and a "standard" english accent.

Yes, when they are speaking together, I can tell the difference though for the longest time I thought they were the same accent, except one was merely 'stronger'. Having listened for much longer now, I can now probably differentiate between at least 3-4 different English accents. However, if someone says 'English accent', the first one that comes to mind is definitely the one in the video (e.g a pretty strong Bumble-esque Yorkshire accent).

Ha, lol. All our posters from the west of the Pennines spitting their tea at the screen now.

What you say is fair enough tho, there's nothing to say that Sean Bean's accent is less English than Hugh Grant's.

Wait, Bumble doesn't have a Yorkshire accent?

Nope. His is a bucolic Lancastrian accent, a more rural version of (say) Flintoff's.

Boycott is archetypal Yorkshire.

Well there you go. I withdraw my claim about being able to differentiate 3-4 accents: I seriously thought Bumble and that girl in the video had the same accent.

Then I guess it's the stereotypical Lancashire accent I'm thinking when I think about 'English' accents.

Obviously it's pretty easy for us to tell the difference between a Yorkshire and a Lancashire accent, but I can imagine it's not so easy at all for someone who hasn't lived in the UK. Would be like us trying to tell the difference between the Seattle and Boston accent.

Still, calling Bumble a Yorkshireman is ****ing heresy
