The Greatest English Song Of All Time

I know this topic is going to cause quite a stir, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

My vote goes to:

REM - Everybody Hurts

Hmmmm, REM? English song? I don't know much but what I do know is I was born in their hometown, Athens Georgia. Ok they might be brits who went over there but I've allways thought of them as American.

Won't Get Fooled Again is absolutely brilliant and so is Baba O'Riley but as it was the BEST song ever......left them out. This thread might head in direction of the 'Favourite Song Of The Week' thread.

Yeah it might. I only put these down when you made me remember one of England's finest ever bands! So put my 2 posts together and my # best English Songs are:

Radiohead - Paranoid Android
The Who - Won't Get Fooled Again
The Who - Bubba O'Riley
and maybe Muse - Muscle Museum

Very nearly seconded that.

However, my pick goes to The Beatles' Eleanor Rigby.

I clearly called it an 'English Song' as I was referring it to the language it was sung in.

We have many Indian and hindi posters, who would've put some very nice hindi songs as well in the 'All time list'.

Sorry for the confusion
