Agreed. Fell a lot in my estimations due to his neo-con backing.

That Galloway debate was also very entertaining.

Rip , a fine writer and exceptional orator despite a tendency of naive and incoherent leftism as well as a constant use of sensationalism. The most annoying thing being not so much about himself, but the brain dead morons who assume that everything he said must be right because of his convincing conversational skills and tendency to make opponents look stupid.

Glenn Greenwald bitchslaps him in this article:

Christopher Hitchens and the protocol for public figure deaths - Glenn Greenwald - Salon.com

Has the balls to break away from the "never criticise the dead" etiquette

I never really gave him the time of day after his neo-con dalliance so I was a bit surprised at the eulogising coming from typically left-wing quarters. Complex individual I suppose.

Yeah. That's why Greenwald's article makes so much sense. I think he was taken aback as well.

One of the finest orators of our time, and will be missed. I didn't agree with a lot of what he said - his support for war on abstract concepts in particular - but I'd be lying if I said he didn't inspire me as well.
Whether you like Hitchens or not, you can't deny he was hugely arrogant. An almost shameless exhibitionist as well with an attitude far more extreme and pedantic than the average believer.

Bought myself a bit of Hitchens reading material after he died.

Letters to a Fellow Contrarion or whatever it's called was sickening in it's language and generally arrogant and self indulgent nature.

God Is Not Great is a good read thus far though. Strongly written, but good.
