Don't know about the origin of the word, most likely during the British Raj.
Another word which isn't used that much is Firangi, which originates from the word "Frank/Frankish" (Northern European). Firangi means foreigner, but since the main foreigners in the sub continents were the English or French it was used for them. I also think Firangi is a derogatory word.

I have to say that I find the concept of a racist word being used against me as being a very foreign one. It really doesn't make sense to me. I guess that being part of a middle class white background is the cause of this, but I just don't really "get it".
I've always thought that we place far too much emphasis on race and culture. We're all humans. We all like to eat, drink, **** and ****. |

Muslim gang jailed for kidnapping and raping two girls
What a couple of ****s. They have no remorse and laughed as their crimes were described in court. I hope they get what's coming to them in prison. Some big burly men need to make sure they make these two ****s their bitches. |

Would imagine they'd get a pretty tough time in prison if the other inmates knew what their crime was. These people are pretty much the least popular people in the UK.
Funny though, this and other stories barely get any media coverage other than on the Daily Mail type issues. Not really sure why this is.
