Not to trivialise the problem but a big factor is the perception of consent and control over the situation. Both boys and girls who are genuinely forced into it, kept prisoner, etc. are looked at as pure victims so that's fine. Once the exchange of money/gifts happens, though, perception changes swiftly and sympathy all but disappears; girls are still powerless/were coerced/etc. but boys are bilking the poor paedophiles to pay for their dirty drug habits. Sad but true.

Getting people in power to admit boys are being trafficked in the first place is hard enough, getting them to acknowledge the degree of victimisation of these boys is another, exponentially tougher proposition altogether.
Woah.....didn't have any idea about this. Comes as a real shock. Are you sure?

Like I said, context is limited to Australia as far as what I personally worked on although I certainly did see enough info to suggest it was the case elsewhere.

When did this term 'grooming' come into vogue? It's a term every media outlet has used for the past few years, but before that I had hardly heard it used in this context.

Came across this somewhat related documentary on human (young girls) trafficking in India. http://vimeo.com/2767234

There are so many dark activities happening right next to us, if you think about it.

All the girls just ran away from the police. Yuuup. Even with a camera crew. Imagine without one.

Probably when it started to become codified in law (e.g. NSW Sexual Procurement and Grooming Bill amendment).

So that's why someone of Pakistani descent uses the term 'grooming' - because it was codified into NSW law...

He lives in the UK.

Why does it matter where the term came from anyway? I probably heard it first in police circles but I think it was in the media before that.

Oh how amusing! It must be a sense of humour fail on my part! This is clearly a hilarious subject after all. Accusing Asif of sex trafficking as well, oh how witty!
