Definitely. In the end Labour became a bunch of people shrieking about asset sales without presenting their solutions in a structured manner.

I guess that's what happens when your senior MPs desert you to fight on your own. The next Labour leader has a lot to do to remove the "deserting, self interested bastard" tag if they want my vote, and they're not getting it at all if they choose Cunliffe.

Haha. The Greens haven't been hippies for a very long time. They're a proper, pragmatic political party now. They're even willing to work with National now.

Greens have excellent policies across the board, but are still stereotyped by most of the nation.

The night before the election myself and a few other Greenies and the co-leader Meteria Turei stood outside the new stadium in Dunedin to hold billboards and hand out flyers to people going to the Elton John concert.
We got a fair bit of 'yay Greens!' and thumbs up, but mostly from younger people who would be <50. A lot of people were hilarious cutting edge comedians saying things about pot (even though most of there don't partake). Then there were the 50+ people who said things mostly like "you're joking" or "for a poorer New Zealand" and "work harder get poorer", and a lot of "nah, voting National!". It makes me think a lot of dinosaurs are entrenched in their political views; they chose a side (probably the same as their parents) back a few decades, have held a grudge against an opposition government and have chosen a media outlet which support their views and have never bothered to actually find out the other parties policies. The 'work harder get poorer' line is indicative of the current National government, but for 50+ middle class people they're are entirely oblivious, and when they go to the polls they vote for themselves and not what is good for the nation, for those living below the poverty line who are getting it worse under National.
Basically I'm thinking in 10 years the Greens will double their percentage and in 20 probably rival Labour or even overtake them, as more people will have grown up with the newer, less 'hippie' side of the Greens and as more old dinosaurs bite the dust (though it has to be said, most pensioners probably would've voted for Winston).

Oh, and one old guy, in his 60s I'd say, walked past us really closely, face bright red and he sprayed us with '****ing disgraceful, you should be ****ing ashamed of yourselves'. I can only assume he thought we were pot smoking, free lovin', immoral communists of some kind.

On the plus side the National sign holders across the road got WAAAAY more abuse, a lot louder than we did. But still, disagreeing with a parties politics doesn't necessarily make it OK to verbally abuse people who are standing silently holding placards, though I guess since they probably don't get a chance to yell at the actual politicians they hate the next best thing will suffice.

I can't imagine anything more annoying than people trying to swing my vote by standing outside a concert I was looking forward too.

Shearer!

The right decision, IMO, and Labour has gone a long way towards guaranteeing themselves my vote for 2014.
