Yeah we don't crap in the first world; most of us would actually have no idea what that was emanating from Ajmal's backside. Why isn't it roses and rainbows like what happens here? PEWS's retort to Ganeshran on Daemon's picture depicting Ajmal's excreta

Absolutely hated the politics of Bal Thackeray, but Wow @ The crowds gathered today in Mumbai.

10,000,000 + people on the streets and marching from everywhere. The City right from Cinema theatres to Taxi's is shut.

He almost literally ran Mumbai, which on population terms is probably equal to a very large country.

The Master of divide and rule politics. He had different shades and then more shades.

The last time probably such scenes were seen was for NTR in Andhra. But unlike Bal thackeray NTR was a more inclusive figure.

(Edit - Maybe YSR to a lesser extent recently too.)

Yeah, he isn't as demographics of Maharashtra and Mumbai has changed now and he is growing after splitting from the Main Shiv Sena anyways. But he's made some space by going down a somehwhat similar path at least.

Edit - The interesting thing in this btw is that Udhav thackeray who is the son of Bal Thackeray and running the Shiv Sena now, is more moderate naturally. And so is his other son who lives seperately Jaidev.

The militant mantle was taken over by Raj, his nephew.

The Indian politics thread

Found this thread from 2009 after the election results in 2009. Oh how the mood of the country has changed in general, towards Manmohan Singh and towards Congress......

I was talking to some of my indian colleagues and they said that they were not certain as to who would come back into power. A leadership crisis of sorts looming among all parties

Woman hits 'like' on Facebook, gets arrested in India

So even after death, Bal Thackeray manages to incite fear and ridiculous behavior in Mumbai.

Events following Thackeray's death basically sum up his life.
