    Surely worth a new thread?

Yesterday, 12 hours after returning from Africa and with no sleep for 48 hours, I played my first cricket game of the season. I came back on to bowl the last of the 20 overs. I decided to severely shorten my run-up as it had been raining and footing and the ball were slippery.

1st ball and the batsman smashed it straight back at me and sconed me. My nose was badly broken and by forehead split open to the bone severing the muscles and risking loss of all facial movement around the eyes.

This photo is after 2 plastic surgeries to rebulid the nose and repair the muscles and close the wound.

Below is a link for those who want to see the before pic. Beware--it is NOT for the squeamish. I repeat-- if you have a problem with gaping wounds then do not look.

Anyway, I am very happy. An inch higher and I would have had a fractured skull and brain trauma that could have left my wife as a young widow.

The Fugger (German pronunciation: [ˈfʊɡɐ]) family was a historically prominent group of European bankers, members of the fifteenth and sixteenth-century mercantile patriciate of Augsburg, international mercantile bankers, and venture capitalists like the Welser and the Höchstetter families. This banking family replaced the de' Medici family, who influenced all of Europe during the Renaissance. The Fuggers took over many of the Medici assets as well as their political power and influence

Bugger me. Small consolation, I'm sure, but what are the odds?

Speedy recovery and hope there's no lasting damage.
