Should hear Ramchandra Guha talk about the Histories of Pakistan and India, imo.
Probably very true.

Will listen to this Guha guy for sure.

This is a really simplistic definition of a democracy to be honest. Certainly a healthy or stable democracy needs much more (civil society, free press, strong but not overbearing rule of law etc)

Those are subjective terms. As long as those things are able to be changed (eg the people are able to vote for more or less freedom of press by some mechanism) - its a democracy. You and I may not like the way it looks, or the values it espouses, but that's a democracy. The only real prerequisite would be the ability of an opposition party to make their case to the people and for the people to start new movements/parties, etc.

Lol. The "government" has turned a blind eye? Yeah it's the current government that doesn't recognize the dangers of the Taliban.

The Taliban are now carrying out bombings in Karachi. The whole of Pakistan is now under attack, but it's still NOT OUR WAR. America's fault! Let's negotiate! Peace and love forever!

If the security apparatus is not working then whose fault is it?

Ummm.....what has the govt really been able to do in its 5 years in power except just get into one corruption scam or another? Can you list down any achievements of this current coalition of corruption?

And the funny part is that the PPP govt has always had violence in its govt and never been able to control it. Anybody living in Karachi in the late 80s and 90s would know. Oh wait.......some people have always been 10000 miles from reality

The interior minister Mr Rehman Malik recently told the public "There is more violence coming up". So Mr Fusion, what is the govt set up with your taxpayers money doing? (Of course there will never be an answer ).

Two year anniversary of the assassination of Salman Taseer, Governor of Punjab and outspoken defender of minority causes

One of the most tragic and shameful incidents in Pakistan's history. To add to the misery of Taseer's family, his son was subsequently kidnapped by terrorists over a year ago and is still being held by them. No one knows for sure if he's alive or dead.

RIP Mr. Taseer. A profile in courage and someone that inspires me deeply.
