As long as we're posting links...

Khan and the Taliban

The Taliban want to remake Pakistan in their own frightening and grotesque image, as TTP spokesperson Ihsan proudly stated. Until they are defeated and the mindset they represent decisively rolled back in society, Pakistan will be in danger. That, more than anything else, is the message the political class should be sending Pakistanis.

Amen.

this again misses the point completely.......

Military option should be the last resort, not the first option.

As a nation we don't seem to learn anything do we?

We let the majority break away from the country, are doing our best to let the biggest province (by size) break away as well, because we always want a military solution.

I remember reading an article in a newspaper ages ago about Khan & Pakistan (by a far-right journalist, I think)

Quote:
Pakistan is a dangerous "ally", a nation ruled mostly by manipulative opportunists of whom we must be wary.

The arrogant Imran Khan wants to be Prime Minister, but he is hardly an inspiring leader. He may yet prove also to be quite dangerous.

He sees modern Pakistan -- its only real concession to modernity might be a nuclear capablilty -- through the aged and cracked lens of colonial politics.
Smali's blood to boil at the thought of Imran not being an "inspiring leader".

Nah, just the Australian media being ****s. They're so incredibly dire on both sides of politics.

Credit where credit's due for Khan. He really wants to improve Pakistan's image and make it a better place.

Imran Khan's latest big ally, Sheikh Rasheed, has asked Mullah Omar (the leader of the Taliban) to welcome Khan to Waziristan. So nice of Imran's allies to seek the favors of ruthless Taliban butchers. Also, Sheikh Rasheed once urged the Chief Justice to "kill" President Zardari. So classy.

Another in a long list of dubious alliances that Imran has made. But of course, I'll be told that Imran is a "different" kind of politician that will change the way things are done in Pakistan.

Happy Independence Day Pakistan! Wish I was in Karachi to take part in the celebrations. On this occasion, I'm reminded of the original vision that Pakistan's founder had for the country, a vision that has since been hijacked by the extremists:
