Easiest way to tell is either by the name - current microarchitecture is named 'Sandy Bridge', previous is 'Nehalem' - or the model number - Sandy Bridge processors will be named ix-2xxx, e.g. i5-2500, whereas Nehalem processors will be a sub-1000 number, e.g. i7-970. Also, mobile/laptop processors will be denoted by M, and are not equivalent to non-mobile processors, e.g. an i5-2510M is not better performance-wise than an i5-2500.
Ch33rs. My hardware knowledge is stuck in 2006, so when I see ones listed with i3 and others with quad-core and whatnot I have nfi which is the better, more recent piece of technology.

I changed to Chrome because the most recent edition of Firefox (at the time, don't know if there has been a new one since) repeatedly crashed. Chrome so far has been a big improvement (though I do miss some of the FF plugins), but it does have a tendency to crash when you try and do anything involving flash.

There is a new firefox every other week, but it's always crashing due to flash. Know where to point the finger now of course.
