If the laptop has HDMI out, then HDMI. Otherwise, it'll have S-Video and/or VGA, either'll do.

I recommend this one. Just read the reviews. Don't risk getting a cheap and nasty sub-$2000 cable.

Cheers ****s. I'm not sure if the lappy has an HDMI port. There's a port that looks like it could be one, but it has no label so I'm not sure.

Laptop is less than a year old, but it's just a cheap Compaq, nothing great.

If you don't have HDMI, then VGA and an Audio cable combo should work. That's what I use as my laptop doesn't have HDMI. You don't strictly need the Audio cable, but if you don't use one you'll only get the sound through the laptop rather than the TV.

Just don't be surprised if HDMI still doesn't work. There are several HDMI standards and it's a strong possibility that the firmware on your laptop won't be able to talk to the firmware on the teev. It's a massive problem and why shops encourage people to buy their blu-ray players and 20892365923465" TV's at the same time, even if the devices are 6 months apart there's no guarantee they will be able to talk to each other. If you can hook it up via VGA, it's a safer bet just won't be in HD obv.

VGA is the way to go, that's what I use. S-Video is unreliable.
