My votes:

1. The Go-Betweens
2. The Jam
3. Joy Division
4. Pixies
5. The Decemberists
6. Foo Fighters
7. Magazine
8. The Ramones
9. The Mars Volta
10. Phoenix

Order of the first four could quite easily be reversed or any combo thereof depending on my mood.

Results for Battle One

No real surprise in the top two, but a solid showing from the arch literatre pop of The Decemberists push the Foos into fourth. Brisbane's finest take fifth & The Mars Volta never looked in danger.

Poor old Magazine never really had a candle, but the Gallic indie pop of Phoenix runs The Jam & The Ramones far closer than they have any right to. Justice is, in the end, served tho.

1) Joy Division 151
2) Pixies 137
3) The Decemberists 114
4) Foo Fighters 111
5) The Go-Betweens 97
6) The Mars Volta 92
7) The Jam 74
8) The Ramones 73

9) Phoenix 68
10) Magazine 35

Round One, Battle Two

Rather more of a mixed ability grouping this time, I think.

1. Morbid Angel
2. The Velvet Underground
3. Burzum
4. Flaming Lips
5. Crowded House
6. The Beach Boys
7. In Flames
8. Metallica
9. Explosions in The Sky
10. Johnny Cash

Not even heard of Morbid Angel or Burzum, and just haven't heard enough of Explosions in the SKy and In Flames. I've heard of Metallica, but not my cup of tea. Not enough to vote for 'em.

I'll vote early doors this time as I was last last time.

1) Johnny Cash
2) Crowded House
3) The Velvet Underground
4) Flaming Lips
5) The Beach Boys
6) Metallica
7) Explosions in The Sky

Can't go past old JR Cash this time. Crowded House just edge out the Velvets because they've written one of my fav dozen or so songs. Don't Dream It's Over, since you ask.

No real opinion on the metalish bands, so zips all round.

So I'll hold you single-handedly responsible for Phoenix's exit.

Pfft. I don't rate them at all. What can I say?

Fair gap between the top 4 and the rest for me, and I don't like the bottom three at all. Morbid Angel top out the dregs on account of being so influential, but it's not a genre I particularly enjoy. Burzum is one of those artists I find it hard to believe anyone actually likes.
