Begs the question, if you had a billion dollars, would you give half away?

But these guys have like $50 billion so giving away half isn't really that big a deal to them. Plus they could probably all earn it back relatively quickly in investments, property and through business.

I don't see why you wouldn't. A billion dollars is an absolutely staggering amount of money. You could give away the vast majority of it and it would make no difference to your standard of living. This sort of thing is certainly laudable and should be encouraged, but to put it into perspective, the combined net worth of those 40 people is greater than the 2009 GDP of about 160 countries.

Buffett is planning to donate 99 percent of his wealth according to that article, hopefully others will take his lead. If not in their lifetimes, then at least after they die; dynastic wealth is a terrible thing.

My rough calculations show this venture would raise atleast 135 billion $ which is staggeringly huge amount.

Buffet is one of the most interesting men.

Lives such a simple life for a multi billionaire. Has a fascinating viewpoint of the world.

Yep someone who sees cash as any other product and is more interested in the process of producing that than actual result or judging the utility of that.
