Being gay once stopped me being hoyed out of the Huddersfield Uni student union.

Seriously tho, as Jesus himself said "If it fits in, it's no sin".

A bit like Goughy earlier, sometimes feel LGBT groups, and indeed other diversity groups, sometimes wield a bit more power and influence than proportion suggests.... At the moment at work we're getting the LGBT stuff forced down our throats a bit (not literally, though I did have sausage for lunch), and when the business is spending money on that and making cuts elsewhere, if anything its causing more resentment than mending bridges. The argument being 'just because someone is openly announcing their sexuality, i'm not going to treat them any differently, they are still either a mate or not'.... However the fact that our generation can see it as such a non issue shows what leaps and bounds the mentality of our generation is ahead of those 20-30 years ago, and its groups like this who we can thank.

I'm sure we can all trot out the 'some of my best friends are gay line', thats because its true, find its now such a non issue beyond elder people.... and of course societies cretins, but usually they are beyond educating bar signing a claim form.

However, ****ing hate screaming queens.... Just because your running around like Paris Hilton with a nutsack does mean people will like you. Ms Hilton is surrounded by people because she's rich and goes like a barn door in a gale....

Find overtly macho and hetero 'lads' just as annoying as overtly camp people tbh.

Moreso, IMHO. Say what you like about the archetypal spoon, they very rarely carry the threat of violence with them.

Agreed. It's fair to point out that people acting like bell-ends in an effort to express how gay they are is annoying. But lots of straight people act like even bigger bell-ends to express how straight they are too, so it doesn't really have anything to do with their sexual preference. It's just annoying people being annoying.

Not a member, not concerned either. People should just do what they do.

This thread needs some homophobes to spice it up a bit IMO. What's the fun if everyone agrees with eachother?

Gays are evil etc etc

EDIT: Type in Westboro Baptist Church to google if you want someone to hate on. A really nice website pops up.

Probably a good thing really. You would think it would keep the trolls at bay. Well some of them at least.

David Campbell would disagree with you.

Anyway good thread. I'm hetero myself but I always found it slightly sad that it was one of the few big issues of the world that never got raised here.

Fair point about Campbell. The debate there ought, of course, to have been about the appalling lengths the media scum are prepared to go to for their "gotcha" moment.

My theory is, it seriously isn't that important to people unless they are gay themselves or are raging homophobes. Not sad at all, just not a big deal for most people.
