Champions League 2003/04

I see there is an English football thread, so why not a Champs League thread as well? I will start with my predictions:

Group A: Bayern, Lyon, Celtic, Anderlecht

Pretty easy draw for the Germans - anyone's guess who will take second place, I reckon Celtic should manage thanks to Henke Larsson.

Group B: Arsenal, Inter, Dynamo Kyiv, Lokomotiv

Arsenal v Inter, uh oh - wanna bet how many red cards will be shown? Inter will win and Arsenal second. In any other group, Dynamo Kyiv might have had a chance, but in this group it'll be too tough.

Group C: Deportivo, PSV, AEK, Monaco

Deportivo first, PSV second should go through here - Monaco might beat AEK and finish third.

Group D: Juve, Galatasaray, Olympiakos, Real Sociedad

Juventus gets a quite easy draw as well. Tough fight for second place, maybe Sociedad.

Group E: Man Utd, Panathinaikos, Rangers, Stuttgart

Rigged draw Man U will stroll through. Again, tough fight for second place, maybe Panathinaikos.

Group F: Real Madrid, Porto, Marseille, Partizan

Three solid teams, and poor Partizan won't stand a chance. Real should win, Porto and Marseille fight for round of 16 spot. Porto finish second.

Group G: Lazio, Chelsea, Sparta, Besiktas

Lazio, then Chelsea should go through here - though away matches in Turkey are never easy. Sparta finish last.

Group H: Milan, Celta, Ajax, Brugge

Tough group to call. Milan are declining lately, so I'd say Celta first, then Ajax. The Norwegian-coached side of Brugge will leave with nothing.

And the same AC Milan who won the UEFA Super cup. Chelsea should finsh on top of their table.

I think Inter will crush Arsenal considering that Italians have the best defence, I predict the top Italian teams will do well.

The very same...ooops. At least they can't get any better. Well, I'm gonna stick with my bet - it's an extremely tough group. The Super Cup doesn't really count, but they played quite well there.

How come? I felt AC Milan's last ditch defence was good.

oopps I got the group references wrong when I mentioned the ECL on the other thread - got the jist of it I think......:duh:

so far as the 'group of death' goes Group D may look a closer call, but as a loyal Gunners supporter I have to take into consideration that their home form in the ECL was unimpressive last season (which is why they did not qualify beyond the 2nd round), and that in recent times Arsenal have not had a good record in Eastern Europe and in particular in Russia!

If they are able to reverse these trends then they should be in good nick for stage 2 mentally - just wait for the injuries now that the squad is shrinking with players out on loan.......(unless there is a recall clause????)

ECL proper kicks off this coming week with the opening matches of the Group Rounds....

Arsenal V Inter on the 17th - we'll get to see just how well The Gunners are really going....if they want to qualify they'll need to improve their Home form from last years comp.....

Yay? Against a Czech side with nearly no merit, who drew Vardar Skopje in the third qualifying round, who nearly got knocked out by Vardar Skopje? And the only goal was scored by a defender, Gallas?

(hang on, considering Rosenborg of Norway was knocked out in the third qualifying round and I predicted Milan to go out (1-0 over Ajax yesterday) then I should keep my mouth shut...)

Can only beat the team they face.

Sparta Prague made it to the last 16 last year, so can't be that poor.

In the same world that Milan are declining? They got knocked out at the third qualifying round last year...but two years ago, they finished third in their last 16 group.
