    Vitamin Pills

Anyone use them, and if so, how effective do you find them?

I find these days that I feel constantly drowsy, I'll be sleepy and yawning even during the middle of the day, which I blame on doing shift work that changes from month to month. That's not something I can really change at the moment but I thought I should give vitamin supplements a go to see if they help me counter the effects of shift work. Bit of a leap in logic to suggest that it's my work patterns without seeing a doctor yet, I know, but I've already changed my diet and cut down heavily on drinking without any change in this regard. That's not really the point anyway, because what I really want from this thread was to find out how vitamin supplements have helped other people, or whether they have at all.

Of the widely available ones, I've heard good things about Swisse Ultivite, and not so favourable things about Centrum.

    Thoughts?

Swisse Ultivite are great when you are 99*.

I've used vitamin pils in the past and found they didn't make a great deal of difference.

On Punter's advice I take those Swiss Ultivite things, find they're pretty good.

Like anything thought, if you're not eating right or getting enough sleep, they probably won't help all that much.

Take a high-dose vit C tablet, a cod liver oil capsule (arthritis runs in family) and a generic (Boots own brand ftr) multi vit everyday.

Dunno if they do any good, but haven't had a cold for three years. Possibly just placebo effect, but def haven't done me any harm.

And if you get caught, give Burge a ring to get out of your problem.

You must be able to pay $500 straight up.

Took a variety of vitamins every day from 2006 to late-2009. Don't think they did much for me tbh.

A lot of vitamin tablets do nothing - they just pass through your system. Some do help though, and it depends on your needs.

Many people take Iron or B12 for energy but something as simple as changing when and what you eat breakfast can have a big effect - but from what you mentioned, you may have tried that already. I'd see a doctor though, just in case it's something else.

Iron, Zinc, Magnesium, B-Complex and B12 are the absolute essentials. It's pretty much proven they do help a lot. IMO, you've got to pick a reliable brand and the right delivery mechanism for any benefit. One of the commonest mistakes people make is by going for the enteric coated capsules, which make no sense.

Used to scoff the orange gummy bear Vitamin C tablets whenever I could find whichever cupboard they were in, as a kid. 'Bout it.
