The futility of Campaign 2012: The horse race is over
There are many such opinions being floated around, most notably by George Will, that Obama has the election in the bag and the Republicans should focus on winning Congress and the next Presidential cycle. This makes me very uneasy. I think Obama is the favorite at this point, but it will be another close election. I don't think Obama winning is a certainty at all, especially if gas prices keep rising and the economy suffers. I would hope the Democratic base does not get complacent and keeps preparing for a sure-to-be brutal campaign ahead. |

It's all a moot point though unless Gingrich gets out of the race. Even while losing, Romney is picking up delegates. With Gingrich in the race, it almost becomes mathematically impossible for Santorum to catch him. With Gingrich out, Santorum will not catch him, but will make it close enough to force a brokered convention. Gingrich and Paul will then become King Makers, so it's really advantageous for them to quit right now.

The most important presidential election ever
If you are a liberal/progressive, the prospect of a Republican takeover should be giving you nightmares. |
