It's completely irrelevant who wins in Iowa, what matters is who came in towards the bottom. Bachman and Perry are pretty much done and Gingrich is on life support. All Romney needed to do was finish in the top 3 in Iowa and he would've been in good shape. Seems like that's going to happen. Expect all the social conservatives to now rally behind Santorum as the anti-Romney candidate going forward. It's not going to make a difference much though as Romney will be the nominee. As for Paul, this was supposed to be his moment to shine and he's going to finish a disappointing 3rd.

With 99%, the margin is five votes. Five.

There are no recounts here btw...would be an epic win if it's by one vote.

So, CNN.com has it stalled on 99% with Santorum leading by four votes.

Can narrowly-defeated candidates request recounts in these?

EDIT: Ooh, CNN projecting Romney the winner by eight votes.

No, they don't even save the ballots in some cases. It's closer to a formal poll than anything else.

In any case, Romney by 8 votes. Does not bode well for our side - if he wins both Iowa and NH, it's going to be almost impossible for any of the other candidates to knock him off the top spot.
