He's not what you'd call a man of principle but I'd much, much sooner a man whose idea of policy was to put a conservative slant on whatever the electorate was telling him at the time and run with it than a man whose idea of policy was to enforce the word of 2,000 year old book with a tenuous link to reality to the strictest and most precise degree he could manage. The latter is a seriously possibility in the Republican Party and while I can accept that any major conservative movement in most countries is going to be influenced by religious issues and lobbyists, having a complete nutter like Santorum leading the party would be disastrous. Maybe the whole Santorum thing was actually a clever plot to make people realise Romney isn't that bad.
I understand your view point completely. You know, I could actually consider voting for a hypothetical moderate Massachusetts/California Republican. There are a few issues that I actually agree with on the Republican side. However, the problem is that even a moderate Republican can’t really stay moderate once he becomes the Presidential nominee or even President. Mitt Romney is a perfect example of this. The guy goes from being a pro-choice, government supported health care advocate to being on the right of certain issues of even Santorum/Perry/Gingrich. Even both Bushes were really establishment moderates compared to the modern tea-party loving Republican party. However, the Presidencies of the Bushes resulted in the appointment of 3 of the most extreme conservatives to the Supreme Court in Thomas, Alito, and Roberts. Those Justices obviously vote with a stringent conservative view on cases, including social issues like gay marriage, abortion, the role of religion in public institutions. So even though a moderate Republican President may not himself believe in extreme right views, his Presidency is bound to be dominated by far right policies due to political necessity.

*Yes, I realize how completely unfair the video is. I know the same exact type of video can be made against Obama using clips from his 2008 Democratic primary nomination fight (in fact, election ads have been made using that precise strategy). I don't care. This is ****ing hilarious.
Haha the top comment is gold

Philip Klein ‏@philipaklein

One of two things now seem possible: 1) Massive, widespread error by state pollsters. or 2) Obama gets reelected.

Map of the US where each state's size is proportional to campaign spending there

And yes it includes all 50 states. It's just that if you live in the other 38, no ****s have been given about your vote at all.

are you suggesting a system devised in 1787 (or w/ever) might perhaps be a bit out of date
