Death Penalty

I am torn on this one, Most of the times I feel it is wrong to kill another human but there are times when I feel it is the right thing to do. I know we have had this discussion in the past but just like to start this discussion again.

What is your take on this ?

Against.

The state should not be involved in acts of babaracy.

That's leaving aside the imperfection of our jury system.

ANyway, am hanging out to hear other people's views.

Am opposed to it completely, but can understand people having the opposite view, or swinging in their opinion on it.

Do some people deserve death?

Probably.

Are there many people who have died that deserved life?

Undoubtedly.

Can we control who lives and who dies?

No, all we can do is add to the bodycount.

I don't feel comfortable with the state dealing out death. Once someone dies, its final, there's no going back. What if that person was innocent? What if that person could have redeemed themselves at a later date? We'll never know, because they are forever dead.

I guess it all comes down to: could you live with anothers blood on your hands? I bet there are many on both sides of that question.

Hope the mods give posters a bit of rope with this thread.

Have always had mixed feelings on this one. Too tired to expand but I think it can be an interesting discussion if people don't get too emotional.

Totally against it, think howardj summed it up for mine.

Looking forward to SS injecting some of his crazy American views into this thread though.

I'd hate to chair a debate on this.

Totally against. It's a crime for a state to sponsor killing of one of its own.

Totally against. The adversarial system throws up enough mistakes, for mine.

Think the discussion should be allowed, promises to be a gas.

Needs an injection of pro-views for a debate.
