I liked the smell of piss around the central metro and all the gypsies trying to do your all stuff on the train kiosks for you for cash.

I loved walking from the Trevi Fountain to the Spanish Steps. I ended up dining at a place near the steps. I have no idea what I ordered but it was good. I don't think the Pantheon is too far of a walk from the fountain either. Overall though I agree, Florence > Rome for food (and architecture too IMO).

Try the gelateria from anywhere. **** is addictive.

I'm eating pizza having just spent the day only at the colosseum and forum/palantine hill. Captain slow I know but I have until the 11th here so it's nice to meander along taking everything in. Haven't decided what to do next yet. Might just meander deeper into town.

Villa Borghese and the gardens are awesome provided the weather is good enough. If it's warm, grab a gelato from one of the barrows and sit in the gardens watching Italian women walk past.

I mean, sit in the gardens and people watch, sorry.

You’ve probably said I know, but just asking again for the slowies amongst us ( i.e. me ...) , where else are you planning to go to in Italy?

I loved visiting Pompeii. My favorite cities were Rome and Florence. Florence is a wonderful town to walk around having glasses of wine along the way.

If you're doing Salerno, then yes, do either Pompeii or Herculaneum - only do both if you're spending enough time down there. Also going up Vesuvius is a must. Not many opportunities to stare into the crater of a live volcano. Also technically you can claim to have climbed a mountain, despite it being the easiest stroll on earth.

A trip up to Milan is well worth it IMO. Even if its only to eat in the poshest McDonalds you'll ever experience (unless you've been to Wall St, that is)

I generally love teaching but fml today has been aggravating

Started badly with a class this morning where I asked "Ok, so who can tell me where the concept of Wednesbury unreasonableness comes from?". Blank faces all round and no responses.

The answer, somewhat predictably, is the aptly named "Wednesbury" case. Granted this isn't knowledge I would expect someone on the street to know, but these ****s had two hours of lectures on this case last ****ing week. Just received blank looks for several agonising minutes before I told them how unsatisfactory their level of engagement was.

Student then kicks off because I won't tell them the topics of the questions that will appear on the upcoming exam. I make it clear that I will give them a list of topics that are examinable (i.e. could potentially appear on the exam), but... "No, I want a list of all the topics of the questions that are on the exam, and leaves out all the topics for which there are no questions on the exam). Dire.

They then complained that the textbook for the subject is too difficult. Had to hold myself back from saying "It's the most basic ****ing book on the subject I have ever seen in my life, and it's totally inadequate for this level of study". Damn it all.
