Sounds a lot like the Great Singapore Sale we have out here yearly. Doesn't bring such massive crowds obv but the discounts are pretty similar.

It's just a moronic aspect of US/Western culture in general, the way shopping is ritualised. It's little to do with actual savings - there's ****ing sales on all year around if you keep your eyes halfway open.

Haha my folks always do that. Dad recently bought a 40" phillips smart tv for $400. It was only cheap cause it had been used in the F1 stands for 3 days. It's currently sitting in our storeroom collecting dust and he refuses to try and sell it off.
