RIP Craig
We did quite a lot - MCG tour, Polly Woodside, Queen Victoria Market, St Kilda, old gaol, art gallery, museum, library, etc.
And we went to a nice variety of eating and drinking establishments - our Melbourne mate took us to somewhere called Lucky Coq or something our first night, and we spent quite a bit of the rest of the time around Brunswick St and Lygon St. The Little Creatures Dining Hall was one of my highlights in that department. I was pretty sure Australia could do better beer than the ones that make their way across the Tasman, and that place proved me right.

How much cheaper are things on Black Friday?
I think it really depends on where you shop and the items you're looking to buy. High-end goods don't tend to be marked down, but I've heard you can sometimes find really good deals on electronics (especially TVs). This is where retailers tend to pass down target prices to the manufacturers, who then sometimes meet these requirements via cheaper internal components (or so I've heard). Personally, I've never really shopped on Black Friday as I find it absolutely ridiculous, but I've heard of sales ranging from 10-50%.
And most of it I feel is psychological, where consumers just feel obligated to shop ahead of the holiday season. In the last few years this trend has taken off in Canada as well with retailers here realizing that they are losing out on a lot of business with massive cross-border shopping sprees and the stronger Canadian dollar providing a greater incentive for Canadians to shop across the border. But it's stupid, because now with how online shopping has evolved, you can find similar deals at points throughout the year. You just have to be proactive, and it's a lot more convenient.
