That is seriously intense.

EDIT: Just watched the pepper spray video. ****ing ridiculous. Wasn't one second where any policeman looked in any kind of immediate danger.

The downside to there being non-lethal options available to Police to stop people is the greater breadth of situations where it's apparently appropriate to use them. The police know it was wrong too, the press on their side has all been about how they were boxed in and forced to use it. All the videos released have sorta dispelled that fairly conclusively.

I really am quite perplexed by police in the US. If there was a similar protest at a Uni here and the Chancellor called the police, the response (at worst) would have been to send a couple of uniformed members to have a gander and call for more only if warranted (like if the protesters were acting aggressively). Even then, you'd imagine it would take further serious violence to send blokes in kevlar.

Yeah, it was just a crowd of (mostly) curious students. I'm pretty sure they'd move to let the police out.

Have now sent an apologetic email, hopefully he'll see the funny side of things. Thank god this is a voluntary essay and doesn't contribute to my overall grade.
Haha, never sent it to anyone, but I leave notes like that too. They're very helpful.

I'm not really sure what the consequences of not doing it would be, probably just a few disapproving comments I suspect, but I'm paying enough money for the course so I'm determined to get my worth from it.
That's OK. I thought you were pulling an Oliver Twist by asking the Lecturer, "Please sir, can I have some more".

Yeah, think the attitude over here would be 'Well they are on campus so they are only ****ing you off, not the public.'

Might send a few PCSO's to be bullied by the crowd.

My theory is by giving US police lethal weapons, they don't seem to realise non-lethal force is still force.

That is such an annoyingly repetitive letter to read. Almost makes me want to cheer on the chancellor.

haha, no sympathy, you guys. Seems fairly clear to me it was written in the heat of the moment. It's a blog post, not an article. I personally give him a little leeway even notwithstanding that it does take people of particular anal fixation to be tenured.
