Main reason is security and there's a massive market for those types of communities in many places

There are exceptions but many times it's simply the illusion of security rather than actual protection. It's simply a way of isolating yourself from the rest of the community, I am not sure if the price of such segregation from the local population is ever worth it. But I haven't lived in Somalia, so obviously I can't speak to that type of environment. My experiences have only been in the US or India, where the community basically serves as a way to 'get away' from the locals, cut yourself of from the culture and society, and just have a nice little feedback loop of elitism going within the community. I hate it so much.

Ruined my week:

Everyone in my family is out of commission. Mother had a shoulder surgery, father has pneumonia, and I had a 102 fever a few days ago but still getting over a nasty cough. I took a couple of days off from work to rest up but since I'm the least sick, I get to run errands for everyone. Yay.

Made/Ruined further:

My lead is proposing a new structure for our department that would see all groups done away with and everyone would work under one person per shift. Apparently, if it goes through, he would like to see me as the supervisor for my shift. This would mean supervising 15 people as opposed to the 3 I do now. Have a lot of mixed feelings about it tbh. Lots more responsibility and I probably won't see any monetary increase for a long time. Not to mention it would mean I'd have my mentor working under me, which doesn't seem right...

Small made : Set up my phone as modem (Y)
Made 24 today. meh. Got stumped trying to up the rate and get an extra batting point.

Ruined : Lost two games of cricket in 2 days.
Bowled a combined 13 overs 0/68, just the small matter of 4 dropped catches, a missed stumping, 2 plumb lbws.
Having a team 93/3 after 24 and letting them make 294. (I bowled 7 overs for 38 after drinks. You can work out what the others went for from the other 17 overs )
Having a team 68/1 after 18 and letting them make 217/4 after 35.
Gah.
Dropped two catches myself, got a hand to each of them so should've stuck.
Blah blah. cramp.

TBF though, despite having to take furniture from off the street, surviving on rice with soy sauce if you're lucky, and having to steal toilet paper from the public toilet down the road he's right. Living by yourself as an 18 y/o is absolutely awesome.
