Made

Had great fun demolishing a shed in our back yard with a club hammer this arvo. Yeah, making stuff is great and the sense of accomplishment is great, but smashing something to pieces is epic fun.

Ruined

Two injuries. Using left hand, hammer slipped through the palm as I was lining up a massive hit, and managed to crush the webbing between thumb and index finger between the bit of wood and the hammer.
Second injury due to getting a bit carried away smashing a piece apart and not noticing that a large chunk of skin on my right hand had peeled off. Spent the last half hour with my right hand immersed in Dettol.

But hey, the fun easily outweighed the pain incurred. Just couldn't quite finish the job... Means more fun next weekend, aye!

Internet/Phone/TV guys were supposed to be here at 10am. It is now 1:30. Supposed to be meeting friends at 5 a few miles away but dont know if I should leave. My cell/mobile isnt working so I cant contact anyone and a typical Manila thunderstorm has hit so it is tough to get anywhere whithout a vehicle and I dont have one.

Isolated and stranded with none of the above services

Glad you got there safe and sound Kev..

Made

More work travel on the horizon.
Fined up here so could have a kick around with the kids out the front.

Ruined

Domestic chores. GAGF.
Knocked back a ticket to Parra-Roosters which has just kicked off. Not because I didn't want to go, but because it was strongly suggested to me I don't go. You'll keep.

Decent ride this morning.

Ruined:

I had to do several things in the afternoon that longer then normal and I missed the Collingwood v Carlton game. Dire. I know one or two Carlton fans IRL, maybe I should send them a text message to wind them up.

Ruined: Gated communities. Ugh. What kind of people want to live in places like those? I want to puke. Just completely insulate yourself from civil society.

Lived in a compound (same dealio, different name) in China tbh. A lot of fun for kids, and the hugely expensive prices meant that the only people that oculd afford it were other expats whose companies were paying for the accomodation. Provided a great place to play and socialise in, but at the same time completely blocked us off from the real Chinese population. While I can definitely see the argument for them existing in an expat setting, there's considerably less reason for them to exist in other places.

I'm really against that too tbh, but much less so. But there are people who send their kids to school within the same compound. They literally never go outside except maybe once or twice a year. That's a cult, not a home. It's an isolated, sterile little world and I find it elitist, depressing and in many cases - creepy as hell.

Good question. I picked up a cheap USB (called the 'Smart Bro') with a few hours of slow wireless internet access preloaded. Convenient in a crisis but hardly the stuff for day-to-day use.
