    RIP, he was a character and whether you loved him or hated him you knew about him even if you didn't like racing. Not many people in sport can do that.

    This. I'm by no means the greatest fan of horse racing, but McCririck was so utterly barmy that you had to pay attention to him. Probably similar to Sid Waddell's commentary in darts.
