Disco music

So the music coursework this year relates to disco, does anyone know any decent disco music to get me into it? Any help would be great thanks.

Nah, you probably wanna start with some Chic.

That CD lacking Bee Gee's IMO.

Saturday Night Fever - The pinnacle of disco. And of pain.

Have never understood why it was such a popular song or they were such a popular band in general to be honest, have always found them to be pretty dire and incredibly annoying, was so much better music of the same sort around at the same time.

I knew this wasn't far away - the music of my childhood is now a topic for study. What a nice thought to start the day. Not.

Well, yes, its a **** album, as most disco is. If I Can't Have You is a good song, as is How Deep Is Your Love, and I suppose Stayin Alive aint bad. But disco in general was dire.

What I never got was the falsetto's. Suppose they suited the sound, but my god they ruined a reputation of one hell of a band. Bee Gees 1967 - 1974 were sheer brilliance IMO. Could touch on most styles (in the pop range, never quite suited Black Sabbath covers) and pull it off beautifully. The story is their first single in the UK got airplay as it was sent to radio stations without a band name on, and most thought it was a new Beatles song (finding it hard to buy that, but says a fair bit about their reputation at the time).

Also their 80's output were decent enough ditty pop songs and ballads, which is better than most **** from the 80's. Not forgetting the absolute monsters of songs they wrote for others too.

On another note, seriously, your music lessons are focusing on disco?? Jesus **** ours were classical music, and I thought that was bad! If they were going to choose something modern, should've chose something with a long term influence over future generations, not a 3 year fad for Spandex.

Should've been folk music (plenty to study there aswell, not just some bloke with an acoustic, see Dylan for prime example of evolution)

We did a bit on the Buzzcocks being the start of decent music for our coursework. That > Disco.
