"Now mr Hurricane let me tell you about our exclusive bonus we will give you the first month free even though we expect you to sign up to this for 15 years -so I am sure the first month free will be very helpful to you"
"but wait there's more - even though I am just a telemarketer I am a qualified insurance delegate and have qualifications".
"Wait there is something else...blah blah blah"

In the end I said send me the information kit and I'll read it. Seriously if you couldn't close me on the phone last night you can't close anybody.
I had someone ring me up about holidays they were selling (or something similar) and they started talking as soon as I picked up the phone and didn't stop for 3 or 4 minutes. Once they'd finished their spiel the next thing they said was "Hello.....hello". I think the dopey bint realised she hadn't heard me talk yet and that I may have gone. Didn't take 3 minutes to say "no".

Had a similar experience with an insurance company called Youi here.

Don’t be deceived when they tell you things are better now. Even if there’s no poverty to be seen because the poverty’s been hidden. Even if you ever got more wages and could afford to buy more of these new and useless goods which industries foist on you and even if it seems to you that you never had so much, that is only the slogan of those who still have much more than you. Don’t be taken in when they paternally pat you on the shoulder and say that there’s no inequality worth speaking of and no more reason to fight because if you believe them they will be completely in charge in their marble homes and granite banks from which they rob the people of the world under the pretence of bringing them culture.

Wasn't really sure where to put this, but mulling over this piece.

Murdoch tries his hand at ethics. In The New York Post.

It's better written than the snark suggests, tbf. The most glaring omission to this semi-rabid socialist is an attempt to justify why the incomes reaped in the free market are more fair than any other potential income distribution.

At the train station today I saw a guy with an Iron Maiden t shirt and I thought - how cool in a retro way. Then I noticed he had an Iron Maiden sweat shirt on and went the other direction and though he was over doing it.

Later I noticed a man in a wheel chair struggling to get on the train and before I could say anything a nice young man got involved and after a two minute struggle got him on board. In the end about 5 people got involved. 1 person holding the door open etc. Seeing that act of good will made my day.

Proudly against the bring back Bennett movement since he is injury prone and won't last 5 days.

No idea where to put this, but has anyone had sedation at the dentist before?

Going in for two root canals next week and undergoing sedation by IV drip.

    What a trip.

Did it on Wednesday. The anesthetist put me on the IV drip and started adminstating the sedative. After five minutes, the dentist started drilling, and I felt some pain and was thinking, "Wtf, this **** isn't even working..."

Next thing I remember is being asked to step out of the chair and I was free to go. I have no recollection of the preceding 30 minutes. The only way I know anything happened was that I have new temporary fillings and the side of my lip hurts from having my mouth wide open.

I was very unsteady on my feet for a good 30 minutes but made it home okay. I was very drowsy so went to bed at 10pm. Back to normal the next day.

Anyway, I highly recommend sedative dentistry, but it would probably cost you an arm and a leg. In Japan, the two root canals and the sedation only cost 4000 yen, which is about 25 pounds.
