Hearing about the Italian cruise ship capsizing after hitting some Rocks. Wow.

Hopefully those missing are fine.

Only thing on my mind is two job interviews coming up.

One is for my current job: high school, with elementary school visit once a week. High school is a cushty job: 8 lessons a week, only making one lesson plan. 325,000 yen a month. Low responsibility, etc. But going nowhere and would start to feel guilty if I stayed in it well into my 30s (will be 30 next month)

The other one is for a university gig at a woman's university. Location a little ****ty, which will mean a longer commute, but teach my own classes with students who actually want to learn English. A lot busier with more responsiblity and a higher level of bull**** to deal with. 320,000 yena month, so 5,000 yen less for a lot more work, but the prestige!!!

The uni gig is a long shot: I am young, single (), with no experience working at university-level. I expect to be grilled over the young and single fact at the interview.

But I know everyone already working at the dept. so there will probably never be a better chance of getting a uni gig with such a smooth transition.

But, god, I would miss my current gig. Made a lot of friends, superb office atmosphere, good students, the works.

Dilemma, much?

This will all be meaningless if I don't get offered the uni job, but yeah, what would you do?

What would I do?

Probably not be worried about being grilled about being young and single and more about what my knowledge and qualifications are for the job.

You don't live in Japan though iirc.

Would take the uni job. Surely even if you don't like the bull**** it'll improve your future prospects elsewhere? Also you can always go back to the high school I imagine if its that chilled out.

Once I jump from the high school it is gone forever.

I aim to be in a uni job by the time I`m 35 (i.e. just over 5 years` time).

Having said that, I've made up my mind that if offered the job, I will take it. Have to, really, if I actually wanna back up my talk about wanting to be a uni teacher.

Yeah, I would like to think that my Master's qualification and experience in syllabus making would win the day over some married dude with one year's teaching experience in a Junior High School but then again this is Japan (rolleyes).

Wait, you mean you have no plans to work at a Pokemon Gym or YuGiOh academy?

I'm thinking it's amazing what low standards I've reached for what counts as responsible behaviour.

"Yeah, putting some washing on this week. Check out who's being a ****ing adult up here."

I'm thinking my idea to sync 700 songs onto my new iPhone, with convert to 128kpbs switched on, when I want to go to bed, wasn't my finest idea. Not like I'm going to listen to 700 on the way to work tomorrow FFS.
