TBH at one point on the sign they had to paint the first letter of each word on to stop them being removed.

On a wider point, I often wonder how homophobic society is these days, one of my very best friends is gay and does get quite a few comments (which do not normally bother him) but I think the fact that I spent most of my times with students makes me forget that unfortunately attitudes have not been changed everyhwere.
Yeah, I often forget this with as well. The nightmare housemate I live with currently is gay actually, and whilst not sticking strictly to the stereotype so much, he is very quick to blame everything that goes wrong for him on "society keeping me down because I'm gay", which in his circumstances is a load of rubbish. People treat him badly because he is an utter asshole.

read that as 'is currently gay', as if it is subject to change on a whim....

Haha yeah, we had a relatively large amount of out gay kids at my high school and from what I've heard it was definitely one of the more welcoming schools in terms of homosexuality, yet we always had one bloke who'd take every chance to talk about gay people and the troubles they face, and if anyone were to mention how much of a **** he was, he went straight to the homophobia line. Truth is he was just a ****.

Stereotypes normally exist because some members of said group do conform with it, and there definitely is some amount of very flamboyant gay people. I'm willing to bet, though, that percentage wise, there's a hell of a lot more overtly heterosexual people out there. I think that as society as a whole becomes more accepting of gay people, so too will the gay character in the media change.

What I want to know about gay people.. Is the "camp" persona a result of being gay, or is being gay an offshoot of the persona? What comes first?
