    Chelsea buys into FC Kingz

I see that Chelsea have bought out part of the Auckland Kingz to help Chelsea identify talent in Australasia aswell as improving Oceania soccer.

Why the hell the Kingz though? honestly the way they run that club (Auckland) is a disgrace.

My favourite two teams, uniting as one...what more could I want

I heard that Chelsea wont be helping the club financailly but theres a possibility that up and coming Chelsea players could play a part in the teams progress. I certainly don't expect to see Damien Duff or JFH turning up for training.

Heres a few items of interest:

    * The Kingz will have the Chelsea logo on their sleeves
    * The Kingz are allowed 4 overseas players
    * There is a chance that promising NZ players will be sent to Chelsea for experience
    * Chelsea will look to send 2nd team or Youth players to the Kingz

This is a much better deal than I first thought..and although theres no chance in hell we'll see players like Duff, Gallas or Hasselbank..it would be great to have some decent players in the Kingz squad.

I considered buying a Kingz shirt a few seasons ago, when they were actually a good side. That idea left, when they began sucking balls, week in, week out. But this new idea of the CFC logo being on the selve sounds good to me. Maybe I'll buy it, although there is the new reversable Chelsea shirt to consider..

I would imagine that this deal also will commit the Kingz to the NSL for quite awhile now...I doubt Soccer Australia will be looking to give the Kingz the boot with such a big European club in tow.

Abramovich has no business sense. Instead of investing in the Auckland Kingz, why not pump some money into Grimsby Town instead. Now that would be a sound investment.

Seriously though, no disrespect to New Zealand football, but they haven't really churned out anyone in the past who i would consider to be good enough to play for Chelsea. I accept that there may well be possibilites for good young New Zealanders to emerge, but it would seem to make more sense if they had invested in an Aussie club, because as much as it pains me to admit it, there are some reasonably alright Aussie footballers around

    I think they're doing a good thing.
The fact is, is that there is not enough money in NZ soccer to find the up & coming players in NZ or to promote the sport.

If Chelsea can help make those gifted players play soccer instead of Rugby then it'll pay off for sure.

I see the Kingz have signed Norwegian Under 21 representitive AMC Aleksander Midtsian, although he comes from SFK Lyn Oslo who qualified for the UEFA Cup this season.

So with Chilean defender Donoso..it means the Kingz will get 2 players from Chelsea.

Sorry Tim. There's very little coverage over here since it's not that big a deal, so why does it mean 2 players joining from Chelsea?

I probably should have said TWO 2nd team or Youth players from Chelsea.
Obviously people in Chelsea or even in England won't give a toss that they've joined up with some lowly ranked New Zealand team..but here I can tell you its a different story and as long as Chelsea commit to their promises then this will be very favourable for NZ soccer.

Right now there are no path ways for people aspiring to play soccer in NZ...there really is only Rugby & Cricket which only set up decent structures 1 or 2 years ago.
The fact that Chelsea are offering good talent from NZ to go & join their Academy could convert several multi-skilled players considering careers in both rugby & football or cricket & football.

What I meant, was why 2 and not 4 or 6?

The thing is a lot of our clubs are linking up all round the World, so that's why we don't get a a lot of news about it.

There is a max of 4 overseas players for NSL teams.

the Kingz already have Chilean defender Donoso & today they signed the Norweigan player Midtsian.
