    And thanks to CricketWeb...

As a direct response to Goughy's thread where CricketWeb has been identified as doing harm to how he writes and things, I thought I'd add a few things that CricketWeb and done for me - and thank the place accordingly.

    1. AFL - I'd never watched Aussie Rules before joining here. Now I watch it every Sunday and have even played the game (badly). I guarantee this wouldn't have happened without CricketWeb
    2. Some Niche Music - These battles help keep in touch with music outside of what gets played on Juice/Juice 2 and as such I've picked up a few new songs/bands to put on the iPod (no, Corrin - not Guns n Roses). For example, Okkervil River.

Now the Battle of the Members is complete, I'm taking a break. Unlike people in the past who've lied about their ability to leave CricketWeb, I'm not going to say I'm leaving, 'cos I'll still be here. You'll see me in Sir BloodyIdiot's tennis thread, and of course the Dev League. I will be taking more time doing some proper writing and who knows, maybe I'll track down Heath Davis and get him to start a blog on here. I'm not leaving, I'm slicing my activity for a short time to become less like Colonel Kurtz and more like Sgt. Bilko.

...now to add "meeting Voltman" to Goughy's thread.

One can help but feel partially responsible.

Was honestly joking. Thought you might even be flattered by the allusion to Conrad's great monster. Well, maybe not by the comparison, but felt sure you'd get what I meant anyway and be chuffed you did.

    Great idea Heef.

    1. Got me doing some writing again, really enjoy writing for the site.
    2. Gives me something to do, live on my own and can while away hours on here without realising they've passed (some would say this is a bad thing, haha)
    3. Speak to a lot of people both on and off the forums that I consider to be good friends. When I broke up with my ex there were a few people who sent me emails wishing me well, and even though they were Aussies it was still very much appreciated
    4. Expect to meeting a couple of people from CW in the coming months for beers, will be crazy fun
    5. Love the community feel and the way we look out for each other's teams. As I stood on the window ledge when S****horpe (well done filter) stole a late equaliser in May, I was talked down by the sympathetic comments from the rest of the footy thread.
    6. How great is it when you're watching the cricket on your own but sit posting in the thread? I think fiery once said it's the next best thing to having mates over for the game, and he was right.
    7. The feeling of superiority I feel over the masses here that don't listen to GNR

    Soppy as ****, anyway

have met wonderful people via cricketweb
gives me something to do while bored
As i'm from a minnow cricket country, it's harder to be up to date with the overall cricket world and I learned a ****load about cricket by just reading posts of people like SJS.

Definitely renewed my appreciation of Test cricket. Couldn't care less about following other teams and learn their history until I joined here almost 5 years ago. Was encouraged to read more about legends like Keith Miller, Garry Sobers, Dennis Lillee, Richard Hadlee, Vic Trumper, etc. Also don't think I would've enjoyed visiting Lord's as much if not for this site and PC.

Other than the cricket side of things, have chatted with some great guys from here whenever I ventured on to MSN, including elongated chats with saggers, pratters and smithers. Would include Murphy but he's a ****.

And though my musician friend is the real reason I expanded my music collection, I'd be lying if I said CW had nothing to do with it.

I have gone out and added more music to my collection from solely what Brumby has suggested.
