The Indian politics thread

BBC NEWS | South Asia | Congress hails India poll victory

Congress have a thumping win in Indian elections, 2009. Very good verdict given by the people for a government which has worked on development and infrastructure (I have benefited because of the infrastructure part in my business). Good times lay ahead for the stock exchange and India on the whole with a stable government in the centre. Expect more development work and more money coming in from F2s.

I don't have any strong preference between the Congress and the BJP though I marginally prefer the Congress. The best thing about this election is that it has been a decisive result which will create a stable government which doesn't have to worry about constantly placating the Left parties and the likes of Mayawati and Mulayam.

I am sure the markets will react positively on Monday. I have been sitting out the last few weeks in the expectation that post-election uncertainty would lead to drops and some good bargains. Now I will have to figure out whether to buy early on Monday and hope that the rally will last for a while.

The Left's miserable outing this time round amused me. Their behaviour during the discussion of the nuclear deal was a disgrace, and they paid for it.

Hopefully this'll teach Karat to shut the **** up.

Yeah, Great result for India and the world. Indian people have spoken and like they do almost all the time they have spoken well and clear in favor of progress, secularism and brighter future of the country . Even though I do not like the Congress Party much, I like Dr. Manmohan Singh and his leadership. What a Great man and I hope and pray that he leads India with much more success and towards prosperity.

That's the key for me.

Hopefully the result this time, and Mumbai's overwhelming show of rejection towards the MNS, means that divisory politics won't work anymore.

Yeah, the left have been scewed big time and it is time to rejoice for one and all on that front. They aren't a force for five years at least.

Like wise not a big fan of Congress but happy about the left getting shunned by people.
The fact that Congress made a decisive decision to keep M Singh as PM... would've itleted alot of voters towards them.

BJP blame game has begun with people blaming each other for the loss. Meh.

Yeah, let's blame each other instead of blaming our flawed ideology.

That's all right but the bigger problem is their blind supporters, here is one of the comment from one of the links :-

"..in India reforms for poor people has been implemented due to communist movement starting from land sealing/green revolution to NREGA prog. of Central Govt. Even your bank deposits and insurance are safe due to left idology...."

While I have no problem with anyone supporting Communist parties in India but the above is a just bull crap.

Azhar interview on being elected MP.

PS - Can a mod rename this thread as 'The India thread'? Would be more useful long term to discuss topics related to India in here.

Since I lean towards the right (and conservatism) rather than the left, I guess that this is good news.
