Awesome town names

As the titles states, any town names that either make you laugh or cry, just plain dire, or completely way out there.

I'm going to start with Hole, in Norway. Now before Vimes chips in, yeah I know it has a different meaning in your language, but here in Australia it would imply that is a **** place to live.

This one gets a mention. It has been done before, but it is pretty funny (and mods I'm not trying to avoid the filter in anyway ). But my all-time favourite, the name of a hill in New Zealand (*clears throat*):

Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateapokaiwhenuakit anatahu

Good luck pronouncing that last one correctly!

Not a town, but I always found it funny that a road next to where I lived in Leeds was called "Black Man Lane"

Can just visualize it generations ago when it was just a dirt track and there being a black guy living there. Obviously these things are often based on oral descriptions and what better way to describe a location?

Best mate lives in a village called Broadbottom, or as I like to call it, Fat Arse.

Not a far drive from the lovely Peniston either

There's a few classics locally including Prickwillow, which has its own website, featuring its charming drainage engine musuem; Grunty Fen (made quasi-famous by comedy creation Dennis of Grunty Fen, who's actually folk singer Pete Sayers, dad of Olympic javelin thrower Goldie of whom at least Sam Vimes will be aware) & Six Mile Bottom.

This is not a town. Its a layby where you can see a very long sign and a pathetically small hill. It has always looked, to me, like an attempt to lure tourists out to the back end of beyond (its a long way from the nearest town - which is probably Waipukurau) and conduct some random killings.

I disagree.

It's actually part of the chorus of a song 'The Lone Ranger' by Quantum Jump, released in 1976. It was banned by the BBC - let's just say that some of the lyrics are 'questionable'.

King of Prussia, PA, USA. Sounds like a video game name.

Another good one is Last Chance, CO, USA.

I also like Experiment, GA, USA and Gas, KS, USA.

EDIT: Add Saint-Louis-du-Ha! Ha!, QC, Canada to the list too.
