Slumdog Millionaire - worst movie to get Oscar for Best Picture ?

Yeah I think so - saw it last night - thought it was the most overrated movie I've seen in years.

I saw it the other day and thought it was really good.

The story structure was unique, the acting solid, the cinematography brilliant, good soundtrack and everytime someone said "millinair' I cracked up.

Since 1995 I'd say (Oscar winning films) (That I've seen, sorry Chicago, A Beautiful Mind)

American Beauty
Slumdog Millionaire/No Country for Old Men/The Departed
Forrest Gump
Gladiator
Shakespeare in Love
LOTR: Return of the King
Crash/ Million Dollar Baby
The English Paitent
Braveheart
Titanic

Loved Million Dollar Baby, not sure why you've got it so low, was excellent.

I really enjoyed it but it was a hard film for me to watch. To me the film was as great as it could be considering the subject matter.

Easily the best female lead in any film to win an Oscar in the last 15 years.

And actually you are probably right, I'd have it on at least par with Crash, better than the English Patient too.

No way jose. There's been much worse films that have taken out the top prize. Much, much worse. Annie Hall, Kramer vs. Kramer, Ordinary People, Out of Africa, Terms of Endearment. I mean, what about Braveheart or The English Patient for crying out loud.

Get some perspective. Overhyped is one thing, but worst winner of Best Picture, no way!

Yeah, brilliant film, one of the only winners I've been happy with in recent times.

Can't stand anything he's done to be fair. Especially when he "acts" in a film and plays the same bloody role every time (and when he directs too, sets his character up with an incredibly attractive woman who he would never get in real life were he not rich). Anyway, moving on.

I wouldn't say it's the worst movie that's even won, but I personally wouldn't call it the movie of the year.

To be fair to Allen he never wants to act and knows he can't, he just does it when there is no one else to play the role. Personally not a fan either.

Pretty happy with that idea, so let's shamelessly hijack this thread and turn it into a "rank the best-picture-winning movies since 1995" thread.

I'd go:
American Beauty
No Country for Old Men
Slumdog Millionaire
Gladiator
The Departed
Forrest Gump
Shakespeare in Love
Million Dollar Baby
Braveheart
Titanic
LOTR: Return of the King

Did not ever actually see Crash or The English Patient. Or Chicago, or a Beautiful Mind. Million Dollar Baby didn't really do it for me and I'm not sure why. LOTR I emphatically did not enjoy at all. American Beauty is possibly the best movie I've ever seen six times.

Million Dollar Baby was AWESOME. Gladiator, wtf? Slumdog wasn't a classic, but it was better than Gladiator.

And The English Patient.

The thing about slumdog millionaire is that, the movie is a perfect eastern fetish for the west. Its just that people sometimes want to see what they think is true about a certain alien culture. So all the begging mafia, the filth, prostitution, fake guides, frauds, mafia etc... is kind of a package deal for the auidience it was meant for.
