Joaquin Phoenix - Crazy or Hoax?

You all may have seen Joaquin Phoenix in the news lately. He's stated that he has quit acting for good....to pursue a hip-hop career. His appearance has changed dramatically. He has grown a big beard and often wears dark sunglasses. See below for a visual:

He’s been acting strange/bizarre at premiers and interviews. His latest appearance was at Letterman, which provided tense laughter. He appeared to be high and uninterested. Letterman called him on it and ended the interview with “sorry you couldn’t be here Joaquin”.

Now the question is whether he’s going all loony on us or is this a prank? Apparently Casey Afflec (Joaquin’s brother-in-law) has been following him around everywhere with a camera. There’s talk that Joaquin is doing a “mockumentary”, kinda like Borat. I say it is indeed a hoax. I’ll even say that Letterman was in on the joke. What do you all think?

Yeah, have been interested in this. No idea myself. Casey has said himself that he's doing a documentary on his move into music. Very strange.

Obviously his character from the clip in the film is extremely similiar to his persona in that interview. Does the movie really exist? Will be interesting to find out.

Funny, a work colleague showed me that video not 20 minutes ago.

My impressions were that he was either.

1. High
2. Schizophrenic
3. Both

His eyes would have been a giveaway but obviously he was wearing glasses. As someone with a close friend that is schizophrenic with a drug problem I actually found it disturbing to watch people laughing at this guy. If it's genuine he should be out of the spotlight, getting help (traditionally something difficult for people with that condition).

I hope it's not a joke. I don't believe it's something that should be joked about.

Given his familys history for being a bit ****ed, i'm guessing a close friend or relative would've got him help/had him sectioned by now if he really was off his rocker, i'm going for the acting up line, though thinking its more for his own benefit rather than for a film etc. Kinda guy who likes to **** with the media, think he's having a bit of a laugh and getting the publicity for it. Thing is, he's the kinda guy who'll keep the joke up for so long even those who had it right all along will start to seriously doubt his sanity

It wouldn't be surprising if he had a mental condition. It's a chicken/egg debate which comes first, but schizophrenia and marijuana are very strongly linked.

No they aren't, they are linked but hardly very strongly.

Anyway it's probably a work, especially considering Casey Affleck the aspiring young actor/writer is flitting around.
