Kids wearing stab-proof vests to school
This is shocking and yet incredible at the same time. I never expected this sort of thing to happen in the UK of all places.

Whilst I have no doubt this type of stuff is exaggerated and blown up for shocking 'news' consumption, there are social and cultural issues that have long been ignored and are part of disturbing trends.

Not at all surprising if this were to happen in some parts of London. I think in first months of 2008 there was 13 or something fatal stabbings of people under 18 in England alone. There is a massive knife and gang problem in London amongst the black community and god knows how many people have died from it in the last 5 years, say.

Well it is definitely perveived to be very much a problem associated with the black gangs in London, whether that perception is a correct one or not, I'm not sure, but my guess would be that it is likely to be so.

Hardly shocking. There was a time at my high school where there was an incident in the cafeteria and all the black and white students were at each other's throats. I personally knew five or six kids who came in with vests, and a few more with knives and pistols. Probably happens more than people want to believe.
