Yeah, be very sceptical about that. I'd just try encouraging her to quit but in the end it's her choice.

Well, had lunch with her today and she sparked up three times within the same hour. Her husband is a smoker too and she says neither of them are quitting, and that her doctor even advised her that quitting smoking while pregnant might actually harm the child because of the stress levels associated with it.

I didn't say anything to her because I didn't feel it was my place but came away feeling so appalled by it. Should I? Be appalled by it that is. Not sure I want to get too invovled in her affairs again, not the most stable of chicks.
We actually had a big debate in this very thread around smoking during pregnancy about 6 months or more back.

Smoking three in an hour while pregnant is ****ing stupid but in my experience the docs would encourage a weaning off rather than going from 20 to 0 because the stress can harm the child. Like saying if they can get down to a few a day and then work from there.

    Sydney public transport.

How hard is it to have one ticket for buses and trains for less than $20 a day?

    IT depts with no clue

Need software installed at work, obvz not given admin rights. Ask IT to do it, he remotes in and tries running the setup.exe file in the root directory, doesn't work, claims it's uninstallable, quickly hangs up.

I crack open the file, it's just an old-skool .bat which points to the 'install' directory. I navigate there and discover the install is 4 separate files (core program + add-ons), currently running them no problems.

Goddamn M$ quals have made a generation of IT types where, if it requires anything more than running set.exe, they're all at sea. Admittedly it's a niche bit of software (LaTex clone) but geez.....

Not really a serious gear grinder, but upside-down Facebook display pictures are sightly off-putting. Flip it ffs.

Yeah it grates me actually. I really like Sydney (and will be living in the Randwick-Surry Hills-Coogee area with a month or so) but compared to Melbourne and Brisbane especially, it's so much dirtier that it's astounding.

    I really do hope so.

What is that smell at all the cbd train stations, especially Town Hall? I remember it from when I was 6. Very distinctive, actually makes me feel like throwing up.

I only bring that up because I'm tipping you haven't caught a train since I was 6, Silver Spoon

wtf? I used to go to Melbourne sometimes once a week (depending on the time of year) and Melbourne is the dirtiest capital I've experienced (which is all apart from Darwin and Perth tbf).

Bear in mind, I've done dirty dirty things in Sydney to all hours of the morning and only gone out in Melbourne once, so this may skew that view. Brisbane, however, is quite clean and much nicer. Except for the Valley of course...
