Cheers for that mate, they did end up surprisingly good for a bunch of one take live recordings.

Woodie Guthrie's version has to be heard to be believed.

Absolute horse ****.

Still think Dylan owes me £7.99 for championing him.

EDIT: Suffer it yourselves.

Never really noticed before how much Sean Penn looks like Woodie. Uncanny in some of the photos in that video.

edit: I also think you're being a bit harsh. It's a different era with different expectations of musicians. Listen to Leadbelly's version for example and it's not exactly the most tuneful piece of music either, but it's not hard to imagine finding someone like Woodie (or Leadbelly) inspirational in his time when you consider what else was around.

Yeah, maybe. I can see how he's important musically, but it's not an especially edifying listen, is it? In those long ago, pre-internet, black and white days I couldn't just go onto YouTube or Spotify to see what he sounded like and £7.99 was a lot of money to a sixteen year old earning £2.50 per hour.

Anyway:

Make it Right - McAlmont & Butler.

Wonderful, wonderful voice.

Ash - Envy

I have a long-held wish to see these guys live and for this to be on the set list.

The last time they visited these shores was 2001, I believe - roughly a year before I started liking them.

That's very true. But Soundgarden, Kasabian and Battles add weight to the pros list.

Giving it a miss this year, waiting for another 2011-esque lineup, needs a few more rock giants to bring me in. Would see Soundgarden and Kasabian, but don't really listen to either of them at all it has to be said.

What names have caught your eye so far?
