Yeah they are an awesome band. Haven't ever come across another fan IIRC.

    The Mars Volta - Ilyena

****ing fantastic. I think these guys miss the mark more than they hit it on earlier albums, but The Bedlam In Goliath is pretty consistent, and this song is a beast.

Have been listening to them a lot lately and strongly prefer their older stuff, especially De-Loused, which is superb the whole way through.

Bedlam is quality as well though.

De-Loused was their best before Bedlam, yeah. Always found them a bit up and down though. One song on every 4 or 5 would be good, and then the others would be 15 minutes of insect noises and wailing in spanish. That's more accurate about the albums after De-Loused though, I guess. Anyway, I appreciated their musical vision but they weren't the best listen a lot of the time.

Bedlam is probably my favourite, and definitely better than the albums immediately before it for mine.

Indeed. Some great songs on De-Loused, but I've hardly listened to Frances the Mute since the day I bought it.

Got my hands on Last Broadcast and Some Cities last year, having had Lost Souls for a while. Think LB is the best of them, but Lost Souls was superb.

Their best song is on Frances the Mute (imho, obv.) in the form of L'via L'viaquez.

It starts slowly before building into something quite monumental, all pouning drums and lush orchestration before fading to Jimi's cracked whisper and then ending all epic and windswept.

Bodes well for the album of the same name.
Yeah, it's quite good. Jetsream is interesting as well.
