I'm going to learn Arabic (Modern Standard)
Are there any native speakers on Cricketweb? Does anyone have any books, materials, tips, advice that they could pass on? Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately I cant help with materials but I think it is a great idea. Probably one of the most in demand languages. A very smart career move if you ask me.
Good luck as I hear it can be tough.

Guys does anyone here speak any foreign language, i myself have been very keen on learning a foreign language for sometime now, so was just wondering what are the best choice foreign languages one should learn.
German, French, Chinese and Spanish are my most likely options, which one of these is easier to learn, can anyone help? |

I would love to learn Spanish and I've heard it's definitely one of the easier options when compared to German, French and Chinese. A lot of the common Spanish words are already used as part of everyday life and I guess the difficult part would be to learn proper sentences and a good part of the Spanish vocabulary. But I'd say that learning Spanish would be a more achievable task for me than learning German or Chinese.

I'm learning latin right now. A more practical language in terms of career move might be Mandarin.

Always felt Latin was a useless thing to learn as a language. Sure some words and phrases appear in science and Law, but never enough to need a strong understanding of the structure of the language. 2 years of my life wasted when i could've been learning a proper language instead, or using the time to do something a bit more practical (seems we were already learning French).
Learning it as a hobby = OK. Compulsary education = pointless

I really don't get people learning Latin, just spend your time learning a proper language you can actually speak to people in FFS. Do Chinese myself as most on here would know, but I had the advantage of actually living in the country when I started to learn it. It's definitely useful but I reckon that if you weren't living in China and weren't completely committed to it it'd be pretty hard to get a good handle on.
