    Confederations Cup

    Anyone watching this?

Two Group A games played today.

I have just watched a thoroughly entertaining game between France and Colombia. France won through a hotly disputed penalty in the first half (Henry), but in the second half were totally outplayed by an absolutely brilliant Colombian midfield.

Only a couple of excellent saves, a few last-ditch tackles and the woodwork saved them from defeat.

Earlier, Japan gave New Zealand a good seeing-to, 3-0 (Nakamura 2, Nakata)

Tomorrow's fixtures : Turkey v USA, Brazil v Cameroon. Yum.

NZ will be lucky if they don't lose by more than 3 goals to each of the teams they play.
However in saying that NZ did have quite a good build-up they drew 1-1 with Scotland and lost 2-1 to the USA which could have been a draw if it weren't for a freak goal so I guess they are improving and these matches will help them gain some more experience.

I saw the Scotland v NZ game - and the Jocks were really lucky to get a draw. I agree that NZ'll be lucky to get a point in the Confederations Cup, though (although it is now 6 games since Colombia have scored a goal, I believe)

That will probably change, but if NZ were going to beat any team in this tournament it might be Colombia. Their performance against Japan was below that of their performances against Scotland & the USA and even then they probably didn't play to their full potential so they can do it. Although their chances of qualifying for the next round are shot even though if they beat Colombia theres no way they'll even draw with France.

    With Brazil's defence that's always a possibility...

NZ isn't an embarassment..I mean lets not forget here that we're playing Japan & France who are inside the top 10 and Columbia are ranked 39.

Currently NZ is just outside the top 50 so realistically these teams should beat us comfortably.

Thats a bloody good win for Turkey aswell..USA were undefeated in like 11 matches & had not conceded a goal in 330 minutes before they played NZ.
