Monosodium glutamate has a number of uses as a food additive, often as a 'flavour enhancer' and sometimes as a thickening agent.
It's a naturally occurring amino acid which is produced in very small quantities in the human body, but is very easily synthesised by the fermentation of starches (and starchy vegetables). There's a growing concern regarding the over-consumption of MSG inasmuch as it has been linked to a number of disorders. Some would like to see it made illegal, but the chance of that happening is nil. You cannot make potatoes illegal, just the same as you cannot make peanuts so.

Its bad if you eat it everyday.
It can stop your height's growth.

I don't care about these E621 stuff.
If you go around watching what you to make sure you live another 10 years. Then you are just making life boring, what is the point of living if it not worth living,

I think it's important to be aware of what you're stuffing inside yourself, but not to be too paranoid about it.
Saying that, I opened a HUGE bag of Bombay Mix last night and chomped on it awhile. Didn't know what was in it. Didn't care. Spicy. Yum. |

Yeah I'm not too paranoid about it, I just saw it on my noodle packet- i was a bit worried about the colour of my noodle soup- bright yellow... so i checked what was in it and saw this E621 which wouldnt have had anything to do with the colour but its a bit dodgy eh...
i ate the noodles anyway though... might stick to wok noodles from now on though- ten times as nice anyway. |

Your bright yellow was (hopefully) turmeric (yum) - a close relation to ginger.
Then again, it could have been E102 - Tartrazine. Avoid this like the plague. Last edited by luckyeddie; 19-06-2003 at 05:20 AM. |
